Anya’s lips twitched into a playful grin. “I don’t think all girls spend their time in the middle of the woods,” she replied nonchalantly. “Just the hot ones.” She froze slightly, surprised at what had just come out of her mouth. Oh, real nice. Now she was going to scare off her new…friend. Were they even becoming friends? Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, Anya swiveled around on her heel and walked away. She was afraid that if she looked into Emeralda’s eyes any longer, she wouldn’t be able to look away. The other girl’s dark irises were so damn dark. Hypnotic. A magnetic force, and even though they had only been chatting for a few moments, Anya could feel the tug. The urgeto turn back around and stare into them - if only to figure out more about this girl.Anya snatched up a stick so she could have something to do with her hands. The stick made quiet snapping sounds as she broke it into pieces. This is definitely nervous behavior, she thought. Maybe Esmeralda wasn’t too observant and wouldn’t pick up on it. Then again, Anya had more or less just called her hot a few moments ago. Who wouldn’t notice that? Twisting around, her eyes fell on the brunette leaning against the tree. “I don’t bite, you know.” Not unless you want me to, she wanted to add. “You don’t have to stay all the way over there.”
Esmeralda stifled a laugh at Anya’s response, she was just about to say something in return when Anya had spoken again. And then she froze. The once bold and seemingly brash Anya had frozen for just a second. Esmeralda was more surprised by Anya’s reaction to what she had said than by Anya’s actual words. It wasn’t the first time someone had told her she was attractive, and she was pretty sure it wouldn’t be the last time. What Esmeralda didn’t understand was the fact that Anya didn’t pair her statement with a sly grin and a bold affirmation that she didn’t regret what she said. If anything Anya’s reaction was sort of…cute. Anya turned her back to Esmeralda and began to walk further away from her. Despite the fact that the two were no longer locking eyes, Esmeralda still felt that nudge towards Anya. In the few minutes that they had known each other, Esmeralda could tell that their personalities were drastically different. That’s what it was, she told herself. The only reason Esmeralda was so interested in Anya was because she was different. Or at least that’s what she had told herself.
“That poor stick,” Esmeralda watched Anya as she broke the twig into small pieces, amusement clear in her voice as she spoke. “it doesn’t even stand a chance.” Anya’s actions were amusing to her, and slightly confusing. One second she was oozing confidence and the next she was abusing a twig in hopes to draw attention away from her own nervousness. “Well, isn’t that just a shame.” Esmeralda offered the girl a small wink before pushing herself off the tree. “And besides, you’re the one who moved away from me.” she pointed out as she began to walk over to where Anya was standing. Esmeralda placed her hand over the twig in Anya’s, their hands brushing as she did so. The feel of the other girl’s skin sent chills through her, and Esmeralda felt the pull intensify. Pushing the thoughts aside, Esmeralda picked the pieces of the stick out of Anya’s hand, tossing them on the ground. “Don’t you think you should be doing more productive things with your hands, rather than attacking poor inanimate objects?”
